Are You Confident of the Diagnosis? Pilomatricomas were originally described by Malherbe and Chenantais in 1880 as calcifying epithiomas and thought to be of sebaceous gland origin. In 1905, Malherbe reexamined the tumors, determined the origin to be hair matrix cells and suggested the term pilomatrixomas. Today both terms are used interchangeably throughout the literature.…
