NEW ORLEANS —  The importance of vaccines in helping to eradicate infectious diseases was a commonly discussed topic at IDWeek 2016.

During the meeting, William Schaffner, MD, of Vanderbilt University, sat down with Infectious Disease Advisor to discuss vaccine preventable diseases and some of those illnesses that continue to circulate despite vaccines, like mumps and measles, and shared his philosophy about the importance of vaccination, even in instances where waning immunity of vaccines has been demonstrated.
