Scientists at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine successfully used experimental therapy involving bacteriophages to treat a patient with a multi-drug resistant bacterial infection. Tom Patterson, PhD, professor of psychiatry at UC San Diego, was diagnosed with a pancreatic pseudocyst after contracting a life-threatening infection with a strain of Acinetobacter baumannii while vacationing in Egypt.
